I was not very fond of my meal. I got the Eggs Benedict and the Greek Omelet. The béarnaise sauce was very thick and acidy on the benedict and overall the taste suffered. The English muffin wasn't great either as it was flat and soggy. The Canadian bacon was good and the egg was cooked well, so that wasn't too bad, but the sauce and English muffin made it less than great. The Greek Omelet didn't have the Tzatziki sauce that it was supposed to or any feta cheese. The gyro meat in it was also the microwave variety, not fresh of the spit. otherwise it was well filled and looked alright although there were chunks of white egg in it like it wasn't well beat before it was poured. I was not happy with the service either, my coffee cup stayed empty for about a half an hour and by the time the waitress came by to fill it all the other ones were completely empty as well. I also never once got a refill on my water the whole time I was there. Some of the other people I was with had decent food but I didn't so I am basing my review on just my experience. Why a breakfast joint wouldn't keep your coffee full I will never know.

Love this place. The staff is friendly and the service is very good. Their food is excellent!!! The meat skillet rocks and the red velvet French Toast is to die for. They just added chicken and waffles to the menu a month or so back and it my new favorite dish. You can't go wrong with anything that you order here.

We moved to the area about 6 months ago and have been slowly trying to hit all the local places. We had been craving a good breakfast and after reading some of the reviews thought we'd give this place a try. We first tried going yesterday morning but the place was packed which we thought was a good sign. Today we were up early and figured we'd try again. Luckily we had hit the jackpot on the place not being busy. There were maybe two or three other tables with customers when we arrived. I was very impressed with the menu-lots of options. However, our waitress was not very friendly or welcoming. Normally I would write this off for a busy morning but they were so dead at the time that a group of about 4 waitresses were congregating right near our breakfast table talking. A little awkward...but whatever. I get it, they weren't busy. But, for not being busy, the service was horrible. We placed our order and I asked if I could get my dish without eggs since I have a food allergy. The waitress wasn't accomodating at all and just said "no". The food came quickly and was decent, however the service continued to leave a bad taste in my mouth. When the food was delivered I asked if I could get a clean napkin because there was food caked to it when we had sat down. She said "Oh, is this one not good?" No...obviously, that's why I asked and there was food on it and we hadn't even eaten. She didn't check-in at all for the rest of the meal, no refills on water, nothing. She didn't ask if we needed anything (refills, etc) until our table was already cleared and she was handing us the check. Even when we went to checkout the cashier did not ask us how things were, etc. We never tip below 20% and will often tip more than that if the service is great but this is one of the first times we've left a poor tip. LIke I said, the food was decent and they had a good looking menu but the service left something to be desired. Next time we will just go to Samos in the Conti Circle. A much better value and better customer service even if you aren't a regular.

It had been a while since we were here and we decided to take a break from our usual after church spot. This place is always packed, but we were able to snag a booth and wedge the car seats in for our two babies. I got the healthy start waffle, which has greek yogurt (too much) and assorted berries. It was good, but I would have preferred honey to pour on it instead of the maple syrup. Husband had eggs with meat - as usual, he was disappointed that they had sausage links instead of patties, but that just meant I got them in exchange for a square of my waffle. Fast service and fresh food - all good things.

First time visitor and although the food and service was decent, nothing here would make me want to go out of my way to come back again. A decent breakfast joint which met our minimum breakfast requirements & standards. A pleasant environment and enjoyed the overall vibe of the place. Points for keeping my coffee cup constantly filled. If you do find yourself in the area, I would recommend stopping here. You could do A LOT worse than this.

I was refused service today. I went in for a cup of coffee. I was offered "Coffee to go", but they would not seat me, even though it was 9 a.m. in the morning and there were many empty tables. As a middle-class white woman, I have NEVER been refused service. Too bad. I'll never go there again. So, they lost a customer. And, who knows, I might have ordered more items once I got seated.

We are always looking for a reliable breakfast joint, and we found one in Grandma Sally's. We have probably been here at least 2-3 times this week. The breakfast is consistent, not greasy, and so good! The Nutella crepes are crispy on the edges and delicious. The eggs are always perfect. The omelets, everything. Your glass is never empty and your plates are bussed quickly. The servers are great, just a touch of grumpy Whig is perfect! We love this place.

Possibly the best tuna sandwich and now favorite of all time. I think the presentation of the open face sandwich is what sealed the deal for me. The melted cheese over tomatoes was like the golden ticket of flavor in every bite. My server was great and when I asked to substitute fries for hashbrowns instead, her response "would you like them crispy?". OMG!!! You had me at "crispy hashbrowns". Granted I live nowhere near Forest Park, however I would make an effort to visit again.

E: Where am I suppose to park my car, Grandma?!? G: What's that, sonny? E: PARKING, GRANDMA, where can I find it?? G: Oh.....I don't know, dear. Did you try the street? E: Yes, Grandma, I did, and it's all tow zones. G: Oh, well then I'm not sure, pumpkin. ^^that, by the way, was a simulated exchange between me and the namesake proprietor. Grandma Sally is a sweet old lady, she really is. Her intentions are good and she can whip up a mean breakfast at a reasonable value, but she fails to realize (or maybe she's does realize, but is far too old and curmudgeonly to give a hairy rat's ass) that her parking lot situation is complete bonkers. I counted, and there are 11 parking spots in her lot. ELEVEN. 7 on the right (west) side, and 4 on the left (east) side. Okay, 13 spots if you include the handicapped ones. But does that really seem like enough to accommodate your massive influx of weekend brunch-goers? Nope. Not even close. With extremely limited parking choices, I decided to park in an adjacent lot, knowing I'd only be inside for 30 minutes, max, so I reasoned that I should be safe. Well apparently that's enough time for a whiny, b*tch-ass landlord to complain, since the hostess came around to warn me that my car was in imminent danger of being towed. So I stopped mid-bite and moved my car.....to a 15 minute spot, leaving the hazards on. Came back in, finished my meal, quickly paid the check and ran back out the door. On a Saturday morning around 10am, it was a packed house with people everywhere. Old folks, families, a group of cheerleaders, they all wanted what Grandma Sally was cookin'. My go-to breakfast order is some variation of the '2 x 2 x 2' (2 eggs, 2 bacon/sausage, 2 pancakes/toast with hash browns), and I've no complaints. Other times it's a skillet or omelette, all prepared nicely to my liking. The interior is delightful with the wide-open feel and vaulted ceiling, and the service simply couldn't be better. The waitresses are very friendly and attentive, something Grandma Sally would pride herself on, no doubt. 3.5 / 5, rounding up because I really dig the way it looks inside, and will return for that reason alone. But with a serious lack of places to stow my car, I don't think I'll be returning on a weekend ever again.

I had a standard breakfast: bacon & eggs. They prepared my order perfectly--and I'm picky. Grits are a welcome substitute for the usual blah potatoes. And their coffee, Imperial Hawaiian Kona (I asked), is noticeably richer tasting than the average diner swill. The waitress was a little gruff at first, probably because I'm not a regular. But she warmed up when she saw I was good people. Pleasant natural lighting (when the sun's out) and a welcoming decor added to the experience. My one gripe is the inflexible menu. I came in wanting to order biscuits and gravy. But they won't let you order 4 biscuits with gravy. Instead, you'd have to order two orders of 2 biscuits with gravy--with 4 eggs! That's ridiculous. Otherwise, go and have a 5 star breakfast.

I traveled neatly an hr on a quest for pancake perfection and I was not disappointed. Service is quick and the menu is large and affordable. I had the meat skillet brining with breakfast meats, eggs, cheese and potatoes. I got a couple of pancakes too for under 9 dollars. It was enough food to split between me and my daughter. Can't wait to try their other items

Even though it was Ash Wednesday, I was extra hungry and decided on a stop in here after it came up in a search for breakfast. I always enjoy my visit at Grandma Sally's in Naperville. I had to make my way out in the snow to go try and fight a red light camera ticket I had gotten back in January. The notorious North Ave/Harlem Ave camera is just a block away. I was one of the first people in that morning, but soon a trail of marked sinners started strolling in. I went for a menu item skillet, as opposed to my standard. The meat lovers was served up in record time and it was the perfect looking skillet. The meats were all plentiful and cooked to perfection. As always, half came home with me along with the pancakes. My server Deloris was super sweet and kept my fluid level up and my spirit up too. I didn't do so well in court. The judge couldn't make it in with the snow. (How come I traveled from Naperville and stopped for breakfast and he couldn't show?) We were all found liable by the village attorney. I think I see a trip to Maywood in my future for an administrative review. After all $100 will buy a lot of skillets. Do you know any good spots in Maywood?

Got sick eating here... At first it was appetizing but once I walked out, no bueno I started puking in the car. Lo and behold I got food poisoning. I should've taken heed my first visit. First time I had a bad case of runs after eating their spaghetti and meat sauce... I thought to myself maybe it was just a case of bad juju. Not so after my second visit. Enter at own risk.

2 stars is for the food, service was 5. It is my husbands birthday so I wanted to take him somewhere new for breakfast this morning. This was nearby and the food had an average of four stars so we gave it a go. The waitress was a sweetheart, but sadly the food was below par. Remember in the 90s when skillet breakfasts were all the rage? Take every breakfast item you can get your hands on such as bell peppers, bacon, frozen hash browns, eggs, cheese, then pop under a broiler in a individual skillet and serve? Exciting then, not so much now. Nothing was seasoned, most items were frozen and reheated, and we joked it was like the food you see on restaurant impossible before Robert Irvine completely changes their menu to delicious freshly prepared foods. I got the Belgian waffle with 'freshly sliced strawberries'. They indeed were not. They were whole and straight from a bag because most still had freezer burn. The waffle itself wasn't nice and crisp, only slightly golden and soggy in areas from the wet frozen strawberries. Neither one of us left impressed. The people there are so friendly it makes me wish the food was better for their sake. I can't imagine that menu brings in a ton of business. We are so disappointed that we consistently seem let down on the hunt for good breakfast in the burbs.

It's decent I had the pancakes...they didn't taste bad, didn't taste good...Didn't really taste like anything. Coffee is...well its coffee. My gf had eggs and grits The eggs were pretty gross. The servers and everyone was relatively friendly. I probably will skip this place in the future. It got other good reviews. ...just not this one I guess.

Okay okay, yes, I have to say...service is a problem when you go to a popular breakfast place on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday morning. That's a given. I mean, c'mon people. The place is packed, huge families, lots of orders, and lots of food to bring out. ANYWAY! That being said, damn good food. Love this Grandma Sally's location. I always get omelettes and skillets whenever I got to a breakfast joint and I attempt to be healthy by avoiding pancakes. So, as far as the omelettes and skillets go: large portions, great mix of ingredients, and just overall delicious. One of the best things about Grandma Sally's...the coffee is actually fresh all the time. That's a major plus. Hate when I get coffee that tastes as if it's been in the pot for 2 hours. One last thing to keep in mind: parking is a bitch over there. There's about 15 spots and it's in a really narrow parking lot. Try to avoid taking more than one car for your party if you eat here. Enjoy!

My boyfriend and I were craving pancakes but didn't want to drive anywhere, so we decided to walk a couple blocks to Grandma Sally's Pancake House. We avoided the early morning rush and decided to go for brunch. We sat down within 5 minutes, ordered coffee, our food and we were out of the restaurant in 30-40 minutes. I got the Mediterranean style omelet with pancakes on the side which was good, you can never go wrong with an omelet and pancakes. Service was friendly, great and fast. Atmosphere was spacious and bright. Grandma Sally's is famous for the apple pancakes, unfortunately I didn't have them but I will definitely be back to try them!

Still my favorite place around the area for breakfast! I will forever love their grandma slam. Again super busy but they truly know how to stay organized and get people seated. Waitresses are always friendly and make you feel like a regular even if it's your first time there. Will continue coming back!

Found two pieces of hair in my food this morning. My meal has been ruined. I would go back and complain but I placed the order to go. I found the hairs when I got home. It's definitely not my hair. The food was good until the hair was discovered...pretty disappointed.

I go there with my mom or my daughter and granddaughter. Most of the waitresses are friendly and do their best to make you comfortable. The tall thin lady with the black hair and the poor attitude is not the owners wife, she is the owner. Your entire party must be inside the restaurant for you to be seated. You can not just come in, sit and only order a cup of coffee unless you are a personal friend. Breakfast is good but there are no lunch specials. If by chance you get food that is spoiled or distasteful (which seldom ever happens) the staff is afraid to take it back and the owner comes to talk to you and in the past has even challenged me about my complaint. The owner has very few people skills, she walks around checking the tables, staring, generally makng you feel uncomfortable, but almost never smiles. If you are not a "people person" you should not own a restaurant. She isn't very friendly to most customers and definitely not to her staff. Often you can overhear her chastising the help, something she should do in private. We go there because we enjoy the wait staff. The atmosphere is always much more pleasant when the owner is off. But again, good breakfast and soup.

I've been coming to Grandma Sally's for quite some time and all I can say is the food is Grrrrrreeat. I've had just about everything on the breakfast side of the menu and have yet made a bad decision. Oh did I mention that there are related to another great breakfast place called Yolk. So if you enjoy Yolk your gonna love Grandma Sally's

My husband, couple friends, and I came here for brunch on New Years Day. We arrived a little after 11am and there were not much crowd. Got a table pretty easy. My friend and I ordered a skillet. I had the veggie skillet with chicken breast. My friend ordered their meat skillet. My husband ordered their biscuits and gravy with chicken macaroni soup. Another friend ordered their bacon waffle and a cup of chicken macaroni soup. I thought my skillet was tasty..tastes like every other skillet. I love the hash browns that comes with it. It also came with a side of pancakes which obviously I could never finish. My friend who ordered the meat skillet enjoyed hers since it came with lots of bacon. We both liked our dish. On the other hand, my husband found his soup mediocre. He said it was one of the poor soups he had. He said his biscuits and gravy were okay..a little below average. The friend who ordered the bacon waffles did not like her waffles. She said she wouldn't order it again. The service was good. Our waitress was very friendly along with the rest of the staff. I would probably come back again, but I'm not sure if my friends will or husband. Try their skillet..it was what my friend and I liked best.

The waiter spilled coffee on me because she wasnt paying attention and she walked off and didnt even notice she spilled coffee on me. We come here for the meat skillets. It is delicious. Our table was missing pepper, salt, utensils, napkins, ketchup, and sugars for coffee. We had to keep asking the waiter for these things but the waiter wasnt even paying attention to us nor checking up on us. All we heard was another employee telling our waiter "happy birthday" and she left. So we got another waiter who was nice but still failed to check up on us. There was a male employee sweeping and he noticed we needed something and came up to us and asked us if we needed anything. He deserved the tip over our actual waiter. Overall, dont expect great servers, but good skillets.

What more could you ask from a low key, family restaurant? The food: Diverse menu with creative touches to sweet & savory dishes for b'fast or lunch. I had a pretty basic breakfast combo but got to have crepes rather than pancakes. The skillets and frittatas also looked amazing. The service: Super friendly, fast, and family friendly. Our server made instant friends with our 7 month old. So glad to discover this place. Will be back again soon.

The BEST apple pancakes I have ever tasted. I started off with the slice serving and immediately after taking my first bite I fell in love. Needless to say that I was so in love I took two entire pancakes to go. If you're a coffee lover you need to have this with your oven baked apple pancakes. You just have to wait a while but I promise you it's worth the wait!

Food is good. Security cameras recently put in. Big Sister (owner) is watching. She always raises the prices so she can afford her new Mercedes every two years. She thinks she is better than her customers, just look where she parks her car. She wants to be near the door so her customers have to walk around her car to walk in the front door. I feel sorry for her staff.

I love this place! This is the second time I've been here in the past few days. Today, I got the Greek skillet and last time I got the Ultimate Cheese Sandwich! It was ultimately tasty. Today, though I thought it would be crowded, I savored the Greek skillet with coffee that was awesome! The wait wasn't long but the food was as good as expected!

Food.Subpar food esp after reading all of the good reviews.... food not very fresh, potatoes oily, fruit was expired, hollandaise was sweet and overly lemony(not how it's too be made). Better quality food for same price or less at many other breakfast locations in Chicago land area. My breakfast companion also Sid not enjoy his food. Service. Despite it not being a normal capacity, our server stood 3 ft away and stared at the floor, lazy and slow, and not very helpful. Honestly, for my money and quality, I'd prefer the nearby panera or even denny's.

Decent place for breakfast considering there isn't too much else in the area, aside from iHop and Denny's. It's a place worth trying and worthy coming back. Decor/Environment: Clean, open, but in need of some updating. I am aware this restaurant has been here for a few decades, but a bit of a face lift might perk the place up. Service: Nothing spectacular, but not horrible either. My main complaint on the service is a lack of feeling special; I feel as if my business is of no importance. Whether at a mom & pop place, a chain, or a one-of-a-kind I should be treated like the loyal, paying customer that I am. Food: Omelets- delectable. Pancakes- fluffy and delicious. Multigrain Blueberry Banana Pancakes- flippin' amazing! Banana Monkey Pancakes- nothing special, I wouldn't get it again. Coffee- so good I usually enjoy 4 cups. =) Overall: My girlfriend and I opt for this place after a night out at the bar, but mostly for the convenience in location, tasty food, and decent prices. The service could just use a bit of work and the decor a face lift.

One of the biggest surprises I've had lately. I expected nothing more that a greasy spoon and found a great breakfast place with fresh ingredients and friendly service. I also think the Hollandaise sauce is freshly made. I will definitely come back here again.

Wow! You could not have nicer servers than the women we encountered today at Grandma Sally's. These women were so kind and cheerful! Amazing! Even if the food was not good (and it was great), I would come back because of these pleasant servers! We have passed this place on a daily basis for years and finally tried it today with our group of out of town holiday guests. The food was fast, delicious, and reasonably priced for the quantity. Loved the eggs benedict, side of sausage links (thick sausages, not the thin kind!), and chocolate chip pancakes (got a couple of bites of my daughter's meal!). Everyone else in our party gobbled up every bite of their food! The space is bright and welcoming, and the parking is a bonus! We will be back!!!

There are two IHOPs within a few miles of this place. When I drive by them on a Saturday or Sunday morning and see the crowds of people inside waiting to get a table, I say to myself, "Why the hell would you wait so long for chain restaurant grade breakfast food when you can get properly cooked homemade awesomeness for the same price and the same wait time at Grandma Sally's?" Okay, fine. If you're out of town and need a place to get breakfast and you want to know what you're getting, go to IHOP. For those of you who live here, you have no excuse. So let's assume you come to Grandma Sally's on a Sunday morning. The parking lot might be full, but you're allowed to park on the side street. However if the lot is full that means, yes, you're going to experience a wait. Yes, it's worth it. So yeah, the mint green decor of this place does kind of look like something out of a made for TV movie from 1990. But what the hell do you care? You're just eating breakfast; you're not taking a date here. And if you are, shame on you. This is why you're single. No girl has ever said, "I think he might be the one. He took me out for pancakes!" The menu is a decent size for a family owned restaurant. It's mainly your traditional breakfast stuff with a few sandwiches and burgers for the lunch crowd folks who refuse to eat pancakes after eleven. Seriously, what's wrong with you people? First you're taking dates here and now you want to order a reuben when you see about a dozen interesting and delicious pancake options right in front of you. The food is pretty damn impressive. It's not what I was expecting at all. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes with sauteed apples because their sign says "famous apple pancakes." I was expecting little bits of apples baked into the pancakes with some apple sauce/maple syrup concoction on top. What I really got were four full sized fluffy pancakes smothered with real sauteed apples. It makes for one hell of a breakfast and I order it every time I go. The service ranges from great to decent. This depends on how busy they are. During steady hours the servers are very happy, refer to you as "honey," and don't let your coffee cup go below the half way mark. During peak hours, not so much. They're not rude, they're just busy. So if you go on a Sunday before a Bears game or something, be ready to flag your server down when you're running on empty or else your cup will be as dry as IHOP's stuffed french toast. I live around the area, so whenever I'm planning on "going out for breakfast" there's no question about where I'm going. It's here. For those of you who are several miles away, I'd say it's worth the trip. But if you go at a busy time, don't be surprised at the long wait for a table or when you feel like they're trying to rush you out the door.

  • Julie L.

The food is good. The areas that prevent this restaurant from receiving 4 stars are the service and the prices. While the food itself is delivered pretty quick, the servers do not generally acknowledge you quickly upon bring seated and they don't check back on you often enough for beverage refills or to see if you need anything else. The servers could also be more cheerful. The prices are a little high for diner style food.
